A Message from James Shillitto, President
Local 1-2 Brothers and Sisters. Happy Juneteenth! Justice continues. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. It commemorates the day in 1865 that enslaved African Americans and their overlords in Galveston, Texas, were read official General Order No. 3 that said in part ,"This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property..." Thus. freedom arrived in theory ,but Black men and women were hounded and murdered by their former slavers. Now that it is a federal holiday it is fitting that as a nation we ALL celebrate this day. to note the ongoing battle for equality, dignity and inclusion for everyone. We must look at our country's real history, that's where the TRUTH is found. That's where true freedom lies. The struggle goes on. Solidarity Unity. Dignity. Respect.
