Local 1-2 Brothers and Sisters, another Labor Day weekend is upon us. This year, like last year, we cannot gather together and celebrate the fruits of our Labor with a parade up Fifth Ave. And like last year Covid-19, this time with the Delta variant is to blame.
In recent weeks, many of you have worked like devils to keep the grid working while the area has been battered by heavy storms and extreme heat. Some of our Members are in Louisiana helping that state get back on its feet after Hurricane Ida roared ashore, and many of you are hard at work to fix the damage Ida’s remnants visited upon our area.
It has been a tough year on us all and if there is ever any question of whether one should be in a Trade Union, this year has answered that with a resounding yes. Without our Union, our labor would have been exploited by the Bosses under the guise of an “emergency.”
We earn our wages and more. Labor Day weekend 2021 should be three days of rest and relaxation for everyone. Please enjoy yourselves and your families in peace.
Also, join the NYC Labor Movement for the 2021 New York City Labor Mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
The Mass will both celebrate Labor Day as well as commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the September 11th Attacks. While this will be a Roman Catholic Mass, people of all faiths are welcomed. We encourage Members to attend.
Please note that the Mass will begin with a procession of union banners that will assemble at 3:30pm.
All safety precautions will be observed in compliance with New York City guidelines, and all attendees must be able to show proof of vaccination.
On behalf of your Officers and Executive Board, I wish all of you a great and restful Labor Day.
