Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanza to all Local 1-2 members and their families. As we celebrate the holidays, we celebrate the end to another great year for our local. A year after deciding on a location for our new office, we are closer than ever to moving into our new office on 36th st. This has been a long time coming and we are excited to be in the final stages of the process.

Our members also saw more of a return to normalcy this year as the golf outing and union BBQ returned. We also took part in the annual Breast Cancer walk and Union night with both the Mets and Yankees. Local 1-2 was also able to march in the NYC Labor Day Parade up Fifth Ave and were able to hold our first in-person union meeting since the pandemic. These great events helped to bring our union closer together and it was great to once again be able to see everyone in brother and sisterhood socially.

We also negotiated contracts this year at IHI, Eastern Gen, NRG, Holtec, Blakley and are finalizing a contract with NYPA. Our organizing team was also busy this year bringing in new members at Durso trucking and Clearway Trees.

As we look forward to the next year, there are many things on our plate. This includes the move to the 36th St office and continuing to work to protect our members as New York State implements the recommendations from the Climate Action Council which were made on Monday. Brothers and sisters, be assured that myself, our board, and our agents will never stop fighting for you.

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all. - President James Shillitto
